    LIVE: Markets close lower after RBI action, FM says clarity coming soon

    Markets fell in today's trading over concerns on growth projections and COVID19 impact. Bank stocks also fell after RBI cut repo and reverse rates by 40 bps and extended the loan moratorium period. Nifty 50 closed at 9051.50 (-54.8, -0.6%) , BSE Sensex closed at 30672.59 (-260.3, -0.8%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 7423.90 (-46.7, -0.6%)

    Market breadth is in the red. Of the 1604 stocks traded today, 592 were on the uptrend, and 921 went down.



    Construction company PSP Projects is under scrutiny by the media over accusations of not paying overdue wages to migrant workers.


    Hawkins Cookers is sharply lower today after double digit declines in revenues and net profits.


    Godrej Industries, Supreme Industries announce results; share prices for both stocks are up, with share price of Supreme rising sharply on high volumes. 


    Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says that the government is set to give more clarity on rescue loans for businesses soon. 


    Two steps announced by the RBI, the extension of moratorium by an additional three months on term loans, and conversion of interest into term loans is helpful for customers and industries, negative for banks since it increases the payback and recovery cycle. NiftyBank is lower and all bank stocks are down.


    Goodyear India's Managing Director has resigned.


    RBI's comments on the economy drove markets lower. The RBI governor says that the central bank expects GDP growth in FY21 to be negative.  


    Markets are lower in trading after opening flat Nifty 50 was trading at 9103.10 (-3.2, -0.0%) , BSE Sensex was trading at 30939.73 (6.8, 0.0%) while the broader Nifty 500 was trading at 7478.35 (7.8, 0.1%).Market breadth is in the green.     • The Government of India acquires 4.6% of shares in IFCI (200 million shares) via an SAST transaction.

    • While there was a rally across global markets yesterday, spurred by news of success in Moderna vaccine trials, US and European markets look unsteady today with bearish sentiment prevailing. 

    • Companies announcing results included the NBFC bigwig Bajaj Finance, which saw net profits fall on covid-related provisioning. The company ends the quarter at NPA levels similar to the end of Q3, but says it is remaining cautious about growth as the impact of Covid related slowdowns become clear. 

    • Embassy Office Parks REIT announced results and also said that it ended Q4 with a distribution to unitholders of Rs.531.7 crore (Rs.6.89 per unit) representing a 100% payout ratio for fourth quarter and full year. Full result dashboard.

    • Markets closed higher on hopes of a quicker than expected vaccine-led economic recovery.     • Godrej Consumer gets a BUY from Sharekhan with a lower target price, while Biocon gets a thumbs up from Axis Direct with a higher upside. Biocon's 'strong launch pipeline' the analysts wrote, is a positive. 

    • ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has sold Bodal Chemicals shares via an SAST transaction.

    • Strong ARPU (average revenue per user) growth - related to Bharti Airtel's efforts in discarding lowest revenue users - has helped drive share price up for the company, despite its surprise loss in Q4 related to provisions for payment to the government. The share price has hit a fresh year high today.

    • KEC International says it has won Rs 1,203 crore worth of orders in India, Bangladesh and Africa.

    • The market opened on an upbeat note with news of a potential vaccine from Moderna driving up stocks worldwide. Nifty 50 was trading at 8903.75 (80.5, 0.9%) , BSE Sensex was trading at 30326.92 (297.9, 1.0%) while the broader Nifty 500 was trading at 7302.90 (57.7, 0.8%). Market breadth is in the green.     • An experimental vaccine from US biotech company Moderna has shown an immune-system response in patients receiving an experimental dose. While this was an initial, small study, the results are promising, the company reported, and showed no dangerous side effects. The data “couldn’t have been better", Stephane Bancel, CEO of the company said.

    • Rakesh Jhunjhunwala stock Delta Corp announces results showing a revenue decline of 19.3% YoY in the March quarter, while net profit grew 171% YoY.

    • The Government of Singapore buys 1.96 million shares of Au Small Finance Bank in a bulk deal on the NSE.

    • The global parent arm of United Spirits, Diageo Plc, is reportedly considering delisting its Indian entity through a buyout of minority shareholders. The company resumed operations in the majority of its facilities post lockdown, since early May.

    • Markets ended lower today as the government's stimulus package failed to excite investors and businesses. Nifty 50 closed at 8823.25 (-313.6, -3.4%) , BSE Sensex closed at 30028.98 (-1068.8, -3.4%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 7245.25 (-258.8, -3.5%). Market breadth is sharply down. Of the 1636 stocks traded today, 257 were on the uptrend, and 1311 went down.

    • Dr. Lal Pathlabs announced net profit decline and marginal revenue growth in its March quarter results today.

    • CDSL reported results today showing a decline in net profits and operating profits, and a revenue growth of 18.5% YoY.

    • The move towards commercial mining by the government and permit for entry of private players has hit Coal India's share price today.

    • While recovery predictions vary across countries, one signal - oil price - is going up as economies reopen with Brent crude now at $33.5 per barrel. 

    • Markets are lower in early trading. Nifty 50 was trading at 9035.60 (-101.3, -1.1%) , BSE Sensex was trading at 30607.37 (-490.4, -1.6%) while the broader Nifty 500 was trading at 7424.55 (-79.5, -1.1%). Market breadth is in the red. Of the 1471 stocks traded today, 494 were on the uptrend, and 890 went down.
