Markets gain in trading, Sensex crosses 40,000

A pattern that last occurred in January 2019 appears again post Diwali: the Sensex forms a golden cross. The Nifty India Consumer Index and the Nifty Alpha formed golden crosses yesterday.
The Sensex and the Nifty have built on their gains from yesterday in early trading, with the BSE Sensex now crossing 40,000, up 0.52%.

LIVE: Sensex closes over 580 points higher

Today was a very upbeat post-Diwali session for markets, with the Sensex and the Nifty both crossing quarter highs. The BSE Sensex rose 1.8 percent or 582 points to 39,381 and the Nifty 50 rose 1.37 percent to 11,786.8. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 index rose 1.27 percent. One of the drivers today was news that the recent taxes on markets including the Long Term Capital Gains tax are being reviewed by the government.

Tata Motor stocks, Dilip Buildcon, Motherson Sumi among the top gainers in markets today.
Tata Motors is sharply up after Q2 earnings surprised analysts with improvements in losses, and margins at 10.8% for the September quarter compared to expectations of under 8%.
Bharti Infratel is at a five year low after the Supreme Court issued a ruling that telecom operators will have to include revenue from non-core operations to calculate levies. The carriers will have to pay penalty and interest
Reliance Industries jumps to record highs on news of Ambani's capital infusion plans for Jio, and its e-commerce launch.
