LIVE: Markets close lower after RBI action, FM says clarity coming soon
Markets fell in today's trading over concerns on growth projections and COVID19 impact. Bank stocks also fell after RBI cut repo and reverse rates by 40 bps and extended the loan moratorium period. Nifty 50 closed at 9051.50 (-54.8, -0.6%) , BSE Sensex closed at 30672.59 (-260.3, -0.8%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 7423.90 (-46.7, -0.6%)

Market breadth is in the red. Of the 1604 stocks traded today, 592 were on the uptrend, and 921 went down.



Construction company PSP Projects is under scrutiny by the media over accusations of not paying overdue wages to migrant workers.


Hawkins Cookers is sharply lower today after double digit declines in revenues and net profits.


Godrej Industries, Supreme Industries announce results; share prices for both stocks are up, with share price of Supreme rising sharply on high volumes. 


Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says that the government is set to give more clarity on rescue loans for businesses soon. 


Two steps announced by the RBI, the extension of moratorium by an additional three months on term loans, and conversion of interest into term loans is helpful for customers and industries, negative for banks since it increases the payback and recovery cycle. NiftyBank is lower and all bank stocks are down.


Goodyear India's Managing Director has resigned.


RBI's comments on the economy drove markets lower. The RBI governor says that the central bank expects GDP growth in FY21 to be negative.  


Markets are lower in trading after opening flat Nifty 50 was trading at 9103.10 (-3.2, -0.0%) , BSE Sensex was trading at 30939.73 (6.8, 0.0%) while the broader Nifty 500 was trading at 7478.35 (7.8, 0.1%).Market breadth is in the green. Of the 1413 stocks traded today, 778 were on the uptick, and 524 were down.

Bharti Airtel: The share price of Bharti Airtel rose 9.3% to Rs 588.2 while around 34.6 million shares in volume have been traded so far. The stock price is up 9.6% since the last week and 17% since the last month, per Trendlyne data.

Bharti Airtel has reported a consolidated loss of Rs 5,237 crore for Q4FY20 on account of provisions for paying statutory dues. The company however posted strong average revenue per users (ARPU) after the recent tariff hike and fall-off of low value subscribers from the platform, as well as good 4G subscriber additions. Motilal Oswal said, “Subscriber adds were flat quarter on quarter at 284 million, but 4G subs grew 10% quarter on quarter to 136 million with 12.5 million fresh adds, garnering healthy >40% estimate incremental market share." Bharti Airtel is listed in 48 screeners on Trendlyne.

INOX Leisure: The stock price of INOX Leisure skyrocketed 8.3% to Rs 178.9 as of now. Around 2.2 million shares in volume have been traded so far. The share price has fallen 12.1% since the last week and 24% since the last month. The jump is primarily owing to the Moderna vaccine news, in anticipation of cinema halls reopening in the near future.
