AMFI India says that "normalcy has returned" to debt and mutual fund markets, with inflows rising in May.

LIVE: Markets close upbeat, Kotak Mahindra Bank gains on QIP issue

The market closed on an upbeat note today with the May F&O; expiry in view, after a muted open. Nifty 50 closed at 9317.40 (288.4, 3.2%) , BSE Sensex closed at 31605.22 (995.9, 3.3%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 7596.40 (171.9, 2.3%)

Market breadth is in the green. Of the 1611 stocks traded today, 948 were gainers and 594 were losers.

JSW Steel says it is expecting supply to normalize in June post the nationwide and global lockdowns. Demand however, is expected to be a U shaped recovery, the company says.

UPL and Bajaj Finserv are among companies seeing brokerage preferences with upside.

Elgi Equipments says it is closing down its Chinese subsidiary, due to the economic downturn in the country, which has hit industry growth and jobs across sectors.

Morgan Stanley predicts increased digital adoption in India, and Reliance Jio seeing some advantages to growth as platform

Kotak Mahindra Bank is up today on the launch of its QIP. It has set the floor price of the issue at Rs. 1147.75 per share.

Fertiliser company Bayer CropScience hits new year high today.

Glenmark Pharma is up today after the company said that its subsidiary has received approval from the US FDA to market Chlorzoxazone tablets (for muscle pain) in the US.

Markets close lower, HDFC Q4 disappoints

Markets ended lower after early gains. Nifty 50 closed at 9029.05 (-10.2, -0.1%) , BSE Sensex closed at 30609.30 (-63.3, -0.2%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 7424.50 (8.5, 0.1%). Market breadth is balanced. Of the 1638 stocks traded today, 763 were on the uptrend, and 763 went down.

HDFC is lower today after posting disappointing results for Q4FY20. Consolidated revenues fell sharply, down 42% YoY.

Markets shed early gains in the afternoon, although some sectors such as BSE Basic Materials are trading higher.

Avenue Supermarts (DMART) has seen its share price defy gravity ever since its listing, climbing past multiple analyst sell calls. But share price fell 5% today after the management warned of falling margins because of lockdowns limiting sales of high margin products like apparel. The company said that challenges will continue through the financial year.

Bayer Cropscience, Lupin, India Cements hit fresh year highs today.

Markets rise on early trading, Nifty 50 was trading at 9124.95 (85.7, 1.0%) , BSE Sensex was trading at 30997.98 (325.4, 1.1%) while the broader Nifty 500 was trading at 7475.20 (59.2, 0.8%). Market breadth is in the green. Of the 1469 stocks traded today, 918 showed gains, and 465 showed losses.
