Markets closed on a low note, and the BSE Sensex ended the day at 31710.99 (-1.13%). The Sensex took its cue from weaker Asian markets, and legislative gridlock in the US Senate signalling the limitations of Trump's administration in passing new bills. 

Market breadth is holding steady. Of the 2761 stocks traded today, 977 showed gains, and 1637 showed losses.

Riding High:

Largecap and midcap gainers today include Jubilant Foodworks Limited (1324.00 3.88%), Bank of India (152.80 3.24%) and Bata India Limited (571.20 2.79%).

Downers:

Largecap and midcap losers today include ITC Limited (284.70 -12.60%), falling sharply after the news of the cess from the GST Council. Other losers included  TV18 Broadcast Limited (38.80 -6.17%) and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited (349.40 -4.80%).

Volume Rockets

Top high volume gainers on BSE included HCL Infosystems Limited (56.30 19.91%), KRBL Limited (436.80 9.90%) and Future Consumer Limited (41.30 7.55%).

Top high volume losers on BSE were ITC Limited (284.70 -12.60%), VST Industries Limited (3282.00 -8.12%) and Godfrey Phillips India Limited (1157.00 -5.74%).

Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited (349.40 -4.80%) was trading at 15.6 times of weekly average. Saturday Roundup: Mobius says 'invest in India', Suzlon Energy to exit Brazil market

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation fell to 0.9% in the month from 2.17% in May, according to data released on Friday. The data adds to the likelihood that the RBI may announce an interest rate cut in its meet in August. The WPI is now at its slowest pace in 11 months in June. Link

Emerging markets investor Mark Mobius says that Indian markets are a good target for global investors, with the GST set to benefit firms, and falling inflation setting the scene for interest rate easing by RBI. Indian markets have a valuation, he wrote, at the highest in the last seven years. Link

Suzlon Energy says that it has exited its Brazil business. The subsidiary was established in 2006 to manage business operations in the country. Based on the company's recent management statements, the focus has moved to the US in the Americas, and the firm's current international bid book stands at around 1GW. Suzlon is hoping for new wins of around 300 MW in FY19. Link
