LIVE: Shankara Building Products gets credit downgrade
Markets closed higher after falling sharply yesterday. Nifty 50 closed at 10836.85 (39.0, 0.4%) , BSE Sensex closed at 36724.74 (161.8, 0.4%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 8827.40 (25.1, 0.3%) Market breadth is holding steady. Of the 1640 stocks traded today, 805 were on the uptrend, and 746 went down.


About 20 lakh shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd changed hands in a block deal.
The BSE Sensex is up 0.16 percent to 36,623 as of 215 p.m. and the Nifty 50 rose 0.32 percent to 10,832.2. The broader Nifty 500 Index rose 0.21 percent.
Asian markets have staged a recovery after the Hong Kong government officially withdraws the extradition bill. Protests had ramped up in the city as China threatened military intervention, raising fears of a Tianenmen Square like event. The government hopes to calm the protests with this move.
The battle at Indigo continues, with Rakesh Gangwal's lawyers sending a letter to SEBI on August 30th stating concerns.
In the second large block deal for YES Bank in two days, about 14.6 lakh shares of the bank changed hands.
Dr. Lal Pathlabs and Shilpa Medicare are among the top gainers today at noon. In August, Shilpa Medicare's share price had fallen sharply on weak Q1 results. The company had received five observations from the FDA after its Raichur plant saw multiple powercuts within fifteen minutes. The company later said that these observations were "procedural" in nature.
