Markets close lower, Titan reports fall in revenue and profit in Q4

Markets end trading lower, shedding gains made earlier in the day. Nifty 50 closed at 10046.65 (-120.8, -1.2%) , BSE Sensex closed at 33956.69 (-413.9, -1.2%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 8238.10 (-85.9, -1.0%). Market breadth is in the red. Of the 1655 stocks traded today, 623 were gainers and 997 were losers.

Titan reported a revenue and net profit decline in its Q4 results, and said that stores that have been open for at least 4 weeks since lockdown are showing sales recovery of 40%+ across segments, and 100%+ recovery in verticals like Caratlane.

Multiplexes are among the top losers today after reporting results showing fall in Q4 revenues, footfalls and occupancy rates.

Britannia Industries CEO Varun Berry and VMart Promoters have sold shares in their respective companies via insider/SAST trades.

Despite a weak Q4 which saw a sharp profit and footfall decline, Inox Leisure in its earnings call says its bullish about growth, with FY20 overall seeing its highest revenues and profits.

PVR has reported a loss of Rs 74.5 crore for the March quarter, impacted both by the lockdown and drop in attendance throughout March as fears around coronavirus grew.

Affle, which had said in its earnings call that it is looking to pick up smaller players as consolidation happens in the industry, will acquire 66.67% equity ownership in Appnext Singapore, with the longer term goal to acquire 100%.

Markets close higher, Exide disappoints

Nifty 50 closed at 10167.45 (25.3, 0.3%) , BSE Sensex closed at 34370.58 (83.3, 0.2%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 8323.95 (24.6, 0.3%)

Market breadth is overwhelmingly positive. Of the 1658 stocks traded today, 1103 showed gains, and 513 showed losses.

Technical textile company SRF Limited gets a bullish take from Motilal Oswal, with analysts recommending a BUY post Q4 results.

Exide Industries saw a worse performance in its Q4 compared to rival Amara Raja. The company's batteries division, the company said, saw a sharp decline, and share price fell today.

The Enforcement Directorate has reportedly conducted raids on the premises of beleagured tours and travel firm Cox and Kings. The raids, officials said, were in connection with the Yes Bank money laundering probe.

HDFC Securities is a BUY on State Bank of India, on attractive valuations but "little else", the analysts write.

Vedanta is rising post results. Revenues for the company fell 15.8% YoY.

Reliance Industries has hit a fresh year high on news that an Abu Dhabi (UAE based) sovereign investor, the Mubadala Investment Company is purchasing a 1.85% stake in Jio Platforms for Rs 9,093.6 crore.

A fire in a chemical plant at Gujarat's Dahej injured several workers. The plant is owned by Yashashvi Rasayan Pvt Ltd, which produces over 15 chemicals for industrial use, and is one of the suppliers for Deepak Nitrite.

Markets closed higher in today's trading as the reopening of the economy overshadowed news of the recent Moody's downgrade of India's ratings. Tata Motors, Kotak Bank, Zee Entertainment were big Nifty50 gainers.

Nifty 50 closed at 9979.10 (153.0, 1.6%) , BSE Sensex closed at 33825.53 (522.0, 1.6%) while the broader Nifty 500 closed at 8137.45 (117.4, 1.5%). Market breadth is highly positive. Of the 1627 stocks traded today, 1199 were on the uptrend, and 364 went down.
