Revenue rose 10% YoY. Pricing helped offset the inflation/star-rating impact, lifting EBITDA margin 40bps

We recommend a BUY rating on the stock with a TP of Rs 192/share, implying an upside of 10% from the CMP.

Orient Electric (Orient) delivered a resilient performance in Q3FY26 despite macro headwinds. Growth was driven by favourable product mix, cost discipline and portfolio diversification.

Revenue grew 11% YoY, supported by festive demand and seasonal recovery in ECD and steady contribution from Lighting & Switchgear

A 12% EBITDA beat was driven by stronger-than-expected ECD growth, led by double-digit growth in heating products and single-digit fan growth.

Inline performance, revenue grew 6% YoY, led by 19% YoY growth in L&S ECD flat YoY

Seasonal challenges notwithstanding, Orient Electric posted strong Q1FY26 numbers with EBITDA margin expansion of 68bps and marginal revenue growth of 1.9% YoY.

Weak prolonged winter season impacted Orient Electric’s water heater and fan sales, while lighting outperformed led by strong B2B demand. Fan demand recovered over the past 7–8 days, and management remains optimistic about Q1 performance, supported by severe summer forecast across India.

Orient Electric’s lighting category retained industry-leading growth, while its ECD was hit by late winter. Margins expanded on cost savings, premiumization and operating leverage.

Orient’s Q2FY24 indicates mixed trends as: (1) revenue growth was 11% but margins remained weak, (2) Electronic consumer durable registered strong growth while Lighting and Switchgear remained flat YoY, (3) fans segment is witnessing traction while other segments remained weak.

Orient faced multiple extraordinary events such as regulatory changes in fans, steep inflation and distribution restructuring in FY23. It led to 340bps EBITDA margin contraction and 40% PAT decline in FY23 YoY. We believe most of these issues are behind now and the company is likely to report strong performance across segments in FY24-25.

As per our channel checks, trade inventory of fans was ~6 weeks at beginning of Q4FY23 compared to normal inventory of 1-2 weeks. As trade needs to reduce investments in non-star rates fans before Q2FY24, the primary sales of fans declined.

Growth in lighting & switchgears (+12% YoY) offset by decline in ECD business (-20%) as fans business underperformed in Q4

Orient had commenced transition to direct to market (DTM) distribution to reduce dependence on wholesale and super distribution in FY22. We note there are visible benefits of this strategy with 60% revenue growth YoY in states where shift to DTM is complete.

Topline boosted by better ECD performance; profitability turns positive with sequential margin expansion

Orient is facing multiple transitory issues such as (1) introduction of BEE norms in fans, (2) steep volatility in raw material prices and (3) restructuring of distribution network.
