GAIL has officially started work on its project in Odisha for gas pipelines across Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack. This is part of the planned gas pipeline connecting five states - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, under the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga effort. The longest stretch of pipeline - 762 kilometres - is being built in Odisha. GAIL is implementing the pipeline and the CGD project, and has been entrusted with building the CGD network in seven cities - Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Cuttack, Varanasi, Patna, Ranchi,and Jamshedpur.
The Bhubaneshwar part of the project will be built with a capital expenditure of Rs. 1000 crore, and the Cuttack project under a capex of Rs. 750 crore.
