Spouses of H1B visa holders may not be able to work in the US, in a potential reversal of the Obama administration's position that had permitted spouses of H1B visa holders to take up US jobs. The move by the Obama administration that permitted spouses to work had been challenged by American groups in court.
The Department of Justice, now headed by Jeff Sessions, who is known for his strong anti-immigration views, has requested 60 days from the court to study the case, a move observers say may indicate that the new administration will reverse the previous government's stance.
Steel companies including JSW Steel and Tata Steel are likely to benefit from a move the Indian government is considering, that would mandate the use of local steel for government infrastructure projects. Government sources said that the move is a WTO-compliant measure meant to curb low-cost steel imports from China. The Indian government has budgeted $59 billion for 2017-18 for steel-intensive infrastructure projects such as ports, roads, railways and power.
