HIL Governing Council assumes control of UP Rudras operations for next year

The Hockey India League (HIL) Governing Council has taken over operations of the UP Rudras franchise, which withdrew from the 2026 season citing financial challenges, to ensure that the players' participation in the event is not affected. The Rudras had withdrawn from the league earlier this week. "The Governing Council will manage and run the new team's affairs until a new franchise owner comes forward. "The Council remains open to discussions with interested parties who may wish to acquire the new franchise," the organisers said in statement on Wednesday. Indian vice-captain Hardik Singh and Uttar Pradesh stalwart Lalit Upadhyay are among the players associated with the team. "This step has been taken to ensure that UP Rudras players participate in Hero HIL 2026 and to maintain the competitive balance of the league," the statement read. The HIL, which was suspended in 2017 due to financial issues and non-cooperation from team owners, had returned earlier this year after being .

BirlaNu plans to invest up to Rs 1,300 cr in next 3 yrs, eyes acquisitions

CK Birla Group home and building material solutions firm BirlaNu Ltd plans to invest up to Rs 1,300 crore in the next three years as part of its strategy to double sales in 3-4 years time, according to top company officials. The company, which had recently renamed itself as BirlaNu Ltd from erstwhile HIL Ltd and undertaken a rebranding exercise, is also scouting for acquisition opportunities to fuel its growth, BirlaNu Ltd President Avanti Birla told PTI. "We are widening our positioning and going further, in a two-fold manner -- in our own products and we're also looking externally at diversifying, other products (and) potential acquisitions," she said when asked about the future roadmap. Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers booked their place in the final of the Hockey India League, defeating Tamil Nadu Dragons 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot out here on Friday. Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers came back from a goal down twice before forcing a penalty shootout as the score was tied 2-2 in regulation time. Pardeep Singh Sandhu (30') and Sam Lane (53') scored for the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, while Nathan Ephraums (18') and Selvam Karthi (32') scored for the Tamil Nadu Dragons. The opening goal came in the 18th minute as the Dragons took the lead. Mohammed Raheel went on an amazing run to progress to the circle before playing the ball towards goal.
