ED files fresh chargesheet in NSEL money laundering probe, 19 firms named

The Enforcement Directorate Wednesday said it has filed a fresh chargesheet in the National Spot Exchange Limited (NSEL)-linked money laundering investigation. The prosecution complaint was filed on January 28 before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai against 19 broking entities and their directors for allegedly colluding with NSEL officials to "allure" investors to trade on this platform, the federal agency said in a statement. The court took cognisance of the chargesheet on February 3, it said. The agency earlier filed six chargesheets against 94 accused and attached assets worth Rs 3,288 crore as part of this probe. The probe found that broking companies, after getting registered with the NSEL, "misled" their clients by providing "false" assurances about the exchange and promoting "illegal" pairs trade contracts that were not allowed, the ED said. Australian university to start its courses at GIFT City from November

The University of Wollongong (UOW) will be one of the first Australian universities to start courses at GIFT City of Gujarat from November, it said on Tuesday. It will start post-graduate courses with intake of 50 students each in courses including Master of Computing (Data Analytics), Graduate Certificate in Computing, Master of Financial Technology, extended Master of Financial Technology, and Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology, said Executive Director, Global Student Recruitment, UOW, Kath McCollim. It has introduced "inaugural scholarship" offering financial benefits to students enrolling in Computing and Financial Technology programs, he said. UOW India has also partnered with IBM whereby students will gain access to IBM's Innovation Centre for Education (ICE). Gujarat International Finance Tec-City or GIFT City is a business district under development in Gandhinagar district.

The proposed financial technology tower of Fintech City being set up in Chennai is expected to bring in investments worth Rs 1,000 crore in its first phase, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa said. Chief Minister M K Stalin, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone for setting up the Fintech City and a Fintech tower at an outlay of Rs 370 crore that is expected to generate 90,000 jobs in the state. The Financial Technology Tower, which will come up in Nandambakkam in the city, is expected to generate 7,000 new jobs in the state in the initial phase, Rajaa said. "As the first phase of development of TN FinTech City, the Fintech tower in Nandambakkam, Chennai will attract over Rs 1,000 crore investments and generate 7,000 employment opportunities for Tamil Nadu and make the state an unparalleled hub in financial technology (sector)," Rajaa said in a social media post.
