Australian university to start its courses at GIFT City from November

The University of Wollongong (UOW) will be one of the first Australian universities to start courses at GIFT City of Gujarat from November, it said on Tuesday. It will start post-graduate courses with intake of 50 students each in courses including Master of Computing (Data Analytics), Graduate Certificate in Computing, Master of Financial Technology, extended Master of Financial Technology, and Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology, said Executive Director, Global Student Recruitment, UOW, Kath McCollim. It has introduced "inaugural scholarship" offering financial benefits to students enrolling in Computing and Financial Technology programs, he said. UOW India has also partnered with IBM whereby students will gain access to IBM's Innovation Centre for Education (ICE). Gujarat International Finance Tec-City or GIFT City is a business district under development in Gandhinagar district.

Fintech City will make TN an unparalleled hub in financial tech: Minister

The proposed financial technology tower of Fintech City being set up in Chennai is expected to bring in investments worth Rs 1,000 crore in its first phase, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa said. Chief Minister M K Stalin, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone for setting up the Fintech City and a Fintech tower at an outlay of Rs 370 crore that is expected to generate 90,000 jobs in the state. The Financial Technology Tower, which will come up in Nandambakkam in the city, is expected to generate 7,000 new jobs in the state in the initial phase, Rajaa said. Sebi cancels licence of brokerage house CNB Commodities in NSEL case

Markets regulator Sebi has cancelled the registration of brokerage house CNB Commodities for participating in illegal 'paired contracts' launched by the now defunct National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL). In addition, Sebi has asked the broker to allow its existing clients to withdraw or transfer their securities or funds held in its custody within 15 days. In case of failure of any clients to withdraw or transfer their securities or funds within this period, the broker will transfer the funds and securities of such clients to another broker within a period of the next 15 days thereon under the advice of the said clients. The case relates to the participation of CNB Commodities, which was a member of the NSEL, in 'paired contracts that did not have regulatory approval. The alleged transactions were carried out by the broker on the NSEL platform in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Markets regulator Sebi cancels registration of 3 brokers in NSEL case

Markets regulator Sebi on Friday cancelled the registration of three brokerage houses for facilitating its clients to trade on the platform of the now defunct National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL) in illegal 'paired contracts'. The brokerage houses, whose registrations were cancelled, are Paterson Commodities, Blue Crest Commodities and Fair Intermediate Products. In three separate orders, Sebi found that these entities have either participated or facilitated the trading in 'paired contracts' on the NSEL platform. By providing such a facility, they exposed their clients to the risk involved in trading in a product that did not have regulatory approval. The acts by the brokers raised doubts about their competence to act as registered securities market intermediaries, the orders noted. As per the order, Fair Intermediate Products started trading in the alleged paired contracts in 2012 after 3 years from the date on which NSEL launched these contracts in September 2009. 42.1 mn hospital admissions authorised under PM-JAY till Dec 14: Centre

Till December 14, 4.21 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 49,468.60 crore had been authorised under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said on Tuesday. Launched in 2018, AB PM-JAY is the largest publicly funded health insurance scheme which provides a health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation to 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families. "As on December 14, under AB PM-JAY, 4.21 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 49,468.60 crore have been authorised, which contributes to directly reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure of the public," Pawar said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
