India's coal production rises 12% to 57.93 million tonnes in Sept

The country's coal output rose a 12 per cent to 57.93 million tonnes in September. India's coal output stood at 51.72 MT in the year-ago period. "During September 2022, CIL (Coal India Ltd), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and captive mines/others registered a growth of 12.35 per cent, 8.43 per cent and 12.37 per cent by producing 45.67 MT, 4.93 MT and 7.33 MT, respectively," as per the provisional statistics of the coal ministry. Of the top 37 mines, the output of 25 blocks has been more than 100 per cent and another five mines' production stood between 80 and 100 per cent in the last month. The dispatch of coal also went up marginally by 1.95 per cent to 61.18 MT in September, over 60.02 MT in the corresponding period last year. "During September, 2022, CIL, SCCL and captive mines /others registered a growth of 1.03, 4.13 and 6.84 per cent by despatching 48.88 MT, 4.77 MT and 7.53 MT, respectively," the coal ministry said. Coal India aims to reach close to its production target of 306 MT in H1FY23

State-owned CIL on Wednesday said it will reach close to its production target of 306 million tonnes (MT) in the first half of FY23, provided its mining areas are not extremely affected by heavy rains this month. Coal India Ltd (CIL) accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal output. "At the current pace of production...the company is hopeful of reaching close to the apportioned H1 target of 306 MT," CIL said. Of the total production target of 700 MT for FY23, the output split is around 44 per cent in the first half and 56 per cent in the second half, the company said in a statement. Coal India's production increased by 44.6 million tonnes in just five months and four days of the ongoing fiscal (as of September 4). Coal stock at electricity generating plants rises to about 30 MT: CIL

Coal stocks at power generating plants rose to about 30 million tonnes last month, state-run Coal India said on Thursday, dispelling fears of shortages of dry-fuel during the monsoon season. The government has been making all efforts to build up coal stocks to avoid the reoccurrence of power outages seen during the summer this year. "...coal stock at power plants is close to 30 MTs, including imported coal, ending August 22 (till 29th). This is substantially higher than 12.8 MTs of August '21 when the stock plummeted by 11.2 MTs in a month," Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a statement. CIL hasn't raised prices in 4 yrs, planning to list BCCL, CMPDI: Chairman

Coal India Ltd chairman Pramod Agrawal on Tuesday said the miner has not raised prices of the dry fuel in the last four years to ensure its supply at competitive prices to consumers compared to the international market. He also said that the CIL is trying to list subsidiaries Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) and Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) but asserted that there was no question of demerging them. The company has a total of eight subsidiaries. Addressing shareholders at the company's 48th AGM, Agrawal said that the CIL is committed to increasing its production and supplies to the mandated levels to ensure that the country gets power at a "just" price. Coal stocks at thermal power stations to last 17 days: Senior official

Union coal secretary Anil Kumar Jain on Tuesday said that thermal power stations have coal stocks that will last for the next 17 days and Mahagenco has stocks for eight to 10 days. Jain addressed a press conference along with Coal India Ltd (CIL) chairman Pramod Agrawal at the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) during their visit to Nagpur. A major decision has been taken with regards to the pension scheme of coal mine workers, Jain said. The CIL gives Rs 10 per tonne of coal production towards pension scheme to coal mine workers, and likewise, the CIL gave approximately Rs 622 crore towards pension scheme out of the total production of 622 million tonnes last year, he said.
