Over 30 cops injured amid protest against coal mine in Chhattisgarh

More than 30 police personnel were injured when a group of villagers protesting against the expansion of an open-cast coal mine clashed with them and hurled stones in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district, officials said. Some villagers were also injured in the face-off which occurred on Wednesday. Residents of Parsodi Kala village in the Bishrampur area have been opposing the extension of the Amera coal project of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, despite the land acquisition process being completed long back, the officials said. The SECL claimed in a statement that the villagers were instigated by a few persons who have vested interests and indulge in illegal activities like coal pilferage. Coal India arm SECL's 12 mining projects running behind schedule

Coal India arm SECL's 12 coal mining projects are running behind schedule due to reasons like delays in green clearances and possession of land. These projects have been facing delays even as the government is focussing on boosting domestic coal production to reduce imports. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) is a Mini Ratna public sector enterprise. Of the said projects, three mines cost Rs 500 crore and above, five Rs 150 crore and above but less than Rs 500 crore, two Rs 100 crore and above but less than Rs 150 crore, one Rs 50 crore and above but less than Rs 100 crore and one Rs 20 crore and above but less than Rs 50 crore, according to the company's report. Two dead, one injured as part of coal mine wall collapses in Chhattisgarh

Two persons were killed, and another sustained injuries after a portion of the boundary wall of a coal mine collapsed on them in Chhattisgarh's Korba district on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place in the wee hours of the day at South Eastern Coalfields Limited's (SECL) Gevra open-cast coal mine under the Hardi Bazar police station limits, an official said. As per preliminary information, the trio had allegedly entered the mine to steal coal when a portion of the boundary wall of the Dipka and Gevra mines suddenly collapsed, he said. The official said Vishal Yadav (18) and Dhan Singh Kanwar (24) got trapped under the debris of coal and died, while Sahil Dhanwar sustained injuries. Coal India arm SECL signs Rs 7,040 crore pact with TMC Mineral Resources

Coal India arm SECL on Friday said it has entered into a Rs 7,040-crore pact with TMC Mineral Resources for undertaking large-scale coal production using paste filling technology. Paste filling is a modern underground mining method that eliminates the need to acquire surface land. After coal extraction, the mined-out voids are filled with a specially prepared paste made from fly ash, crushed overburden from opencast mines, cement, water, and binding chemicals. This process prevents land subsidence and ensures the structural stability of the mine. Coal India arm South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) on Thursday said that Harish Duhan has taken charge as its Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD). With his industry knowledge and strategic vision, Duhan is expected to steer SECL towards greater achievements in coal production, technological advancements, and sustainable development initiatives. SECL boosts pace of clearing mine overburden to increase coal output

Chhattisgarh-based coal producer SECL, an arm of Coal India, on Monday said it has increased the pace of clearing mine overburden to ramp up its output. In the current financial year from April till date, it removed 281 million cubic metres (MCuM) of overburden, registering a growth of 7.6 per cent year on year. Overburden removal (OBR) involves clearing of soil and rock layers from the surface of a mine to access coal reserves. OBR of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) has "crossed 281 million cubic metres, achieving 105 per cent of its pro-rata target and recording 19.82 MCuM (7.58 per cent) increase compared to the same period last year", the public sector enterprise said in a statement. The company said it is removing over 1.3 million cubic metres of overburden daily. SECL to spend Rs 169 cr on plantation drive in MP, Chhattisgarh in 5 yrs

Coal India-arm SECL is set to spend Rs 169 crore over the next five years on extensive plantation drives in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, an official statement said on Monday. In partnership with the Rajya Van Vikas Nigam, the South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) aims to plant over 26 lakh saplings in Chhattisgarh and 12 lakh in Madhya Pradesh between 2023-24 and 2027-28. The initiative also includes a four-year maintenance period for each year of plantation to ensure proper growth and survival of saplings, the coal ministry said in a statement. In alignment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, SECL has planted 1,46,675 saplings across its operational areas in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
