NCERT may remove controversial portion on judiciary from class 8 textbook

The controversial portions about judicial corruption in NCERT's class 8 textbook could be removed as the government has not taken kindly to the matter, sources said on Wednesday, while the council pulled the book from its website. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi has taken suo motu cognisance of the "objectionable" statements about the judiciary in NCERT textbooks after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, alongside Abhishek Singhvi, mentioned the matter for urgent consideration. Separately, CJI Kant strongly objected to a chapter on judicial corruption in the NCERT's Class 8 curriculum, saying nobody on earth will be allowed to defame the judiciary and taint its integrity. Sunshine Pictures, Lumino, M&B Engineering secure Sebi nod for IPOs

Film and television producer-director Vipul Shah-backed Sunshine Pictures, Lumino Industries and M&B Engineering have received Sebi's go-ahead to raise funds through initial public offerings (IPOs), an update with the markets regulator showed on Tuesday. The three firms, which filed their preliminary IPO papers with Sebi during January-February, obtained their observations between June 9 and June 13. In Sebi's parlance, obtaining observations means its go-ahead to float the public issue. As for the Sunshine Pictures issue, its IPO comprises a total offer size of 83.75 lakh equity shares, including a fresh issue of 50 lakh shares and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of 33.75 lakh shares by promoters, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). Gems, jewellery exports fall 10.29% to $1.97 billion in Dec: GJEPC

The overall gems and jewellery exports declined 10.29 per cent year-on-year to USD 1,967.98 million (Rs 16,719.460 crore) due to geopolitical tensions and a slowdown in demand in China, GJEPC said on Friday. Gems and jewellery exports stood at USD 2,193.82 million (Rs 18,269.7 crore) in December 2023, according to data from industry apex body Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). "The geopolitical tensions continue to affect the overall demand. The slowdown in demand in key export destinations, including China, has also impacted the shipments," GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah told PTI. The overall export of Cut and Polished diamonds (CPD) declined 10.36 per cent to USD 773.1 million (Rs 6,569.7 crores) in December compared to USD 862.48 million (Rs 7,182.53 crores) in the same period of 2023. Film and television producer-director Vipul Shah-backed Sunshine Pictures Ltd has filed draft papers with the market regulator Sebi to raise funds through an initial public offering (IPO). The IPO comprises a total offer size of 83.75 lakh equity shares including a fresh issue of 50 lakh shares and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of 33.75 lakh shares by promoters, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). Gem Aromatics files draft papers with Sebi to mobilise funds via IPO

Mumbai-based Gem Aromatics, a manufacturer of specialty ingredients, has filled its draft papers with Sebi to raise funds through an initial public offer. The initial public offering (IPO) is a mix of fresh issue of equity shares worth up to Rs 175 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 89.24 lakh shares each by the promoter and an investor, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) filed on December 28. Among promoters, Vipul Parekh will offload 33.96 lakh equity shares, Kaksha Vipul Parekh up to 16.26 lakh shares and Yash Vipul Parekh will sell up to 16.70 lakh shares.
