India look to seal series as NZ's Amelie Kerr exits ODIs due to injury

India will seek a better performance from batters in their quest to seal the series when they face New Zealand in the second women's ODI here on Sunday. Even though India won the first match comfortably by 59 runs, batters squandered starts as their innings were littered with multiple 30s and 40s. The hosts would want a change of script in this match, and skipper Smirti Mandhana will have to lead the charge, which in the last match was done by debutant Tejal Hasabnis. The elegant left-hander got out for eight in the opening match, continuing her lean run over the last month or so. She can fall back upon the memories of a fine run against South Africa earlier this July when she cracked runs for fun, including two big hundreds. Along with Mandhana's form, the Indian camp will also keep an eye on the fitness of regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the previous match with an unspecified niggle. Mandhana says it's good to start with a win after a hard couple of months

Stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana hailed India's bowling and fielding efforts as they bounced back from a "tough" phase to secure a win against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series. India's Women's T20 World Cup campaign earlier this month had ended in a disaster as they failed to reach the semifinals following a 58-run defeat to Sophie Devine's New Zealand, who went on to win the tournament. However, this time, Devine's side fell short of chasing a modest 228, losing to India by 59 runs in the ODI series opener. "It's been a tough 1.5 to 2 months, so it feels good to start with a win. If you don't believe in cricket, you won't succeed," said Mandhana, who captained in place of Harmanpreet Kaur, during the post-match presentation. Mandhana promoter diverted loans for personal benefit: ED charge sheet

Purushottam Mandhana, promoter of Mandhana Industries, used business loans for personal benefit and caused a loss of Rs 975 crore to a Bank of Baroda-led consortium of lenders, the Enforcement Directorate has said in its charge sheet. Observing that there was a prima facie case against Mandhana and others, a special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases here earlier this month directed the accused to remain present in the court on November 21. The charge sheet filed by the ED named 18 persons as accused, including Purushottam Mandhana, his wife Prema and son Priyavrat. Special judge A C Daga took cognizance of the charge sheet on October 1, saying there was a clear, prima facie case under the PMLA. "All accused persons appear to have been involved in this process of money laundering and ultimately tried to make tainted money untainted," the court noted and issued summons to them.
