Gokhale Institute's parent body secretary held for fund 'misappropriation'

Police have arrested the secretary of the Servants of India Society, the parent body of the prestigious Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) here, for alleged misappropriation of funds and cheating, an official said. Milind Deshmukh was arrested on Saturday on a complaint by GIPE's deputy registrar Vishal Gaikwad, the Deccan Gymkhana police station official said on Sunday. "Funds of Rs 1.5 crore belonging to GIPE were allegedly diverted for the purchase of land for the Servants of India Society (SIS). The alleged misappropriation took place in 2022-23. Deshmukh has been booked under IPC sections 406, 420 and 34 for criminal breach of trust, cheating and other offences," the official said. Deshmukh, while working as SIS secretary, in December 2022 drafted a letter with his own signature to the Gokhale Institute in which he demanded to free hold SIS land in Nagpur valued at Rs 1.5 crore, the complaint stated. Sanyal responds to removal as GIPE chancellor, cites poor NAAC grade

EAC-PM member Sanjeev Sanyal on Saturday broke his silence on his removal from the post of chancellor of Pune-based Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics (GIPE) by asserting the prestigious institution's poor grade in the recent NAAC accreditation reflects the performance of earlier leaders. Sanyal was removed from the post on Thursday by the Servants of India Society (SIS), the GIPE's parent body, citing declining academic standing, failure on his part to provide "concrete steps" to improve the situation as well as the 'B' grade received in the NAAC accreditation. SIS Cash Service IPO to raise Rs 100 cr, promoters offer 3.7 mn addl shares

Cash logistics player SIS Cash Service Ltd has filed draft papers with the market regulator Sebi to mop up funds through an initial public offering (IPO). The IPO is a mix of fresh issue of shares worth Rs 100 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of 37.15 lakh shares by promoters, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) filed on Thursday. Those selling shares in the OFS are SIS Ltd and SMC Integrated Facility Management Solutions Ltd. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the tune of Rs 37.59 crore will be used for the purchase of cash vehicles and fabrication of the secured vehicle; Rs 29.81 crore for payment of debt and a portion will be used for general corporate purposes.
