State-run oil explorers ONGC and Oil India Ltd are planning to begin a Rs 3,200 crore stratigraphic drilling campaign in untapped offshore areas early next year, as part of efforts to discover new hydrocarbon reserves and cut reliance on imports, officials said. In the first phase, four wells will be drilled in deepsea of Andaman, Mahanadi, Saurashtra and Bengal sedimentary basins. Global energy giant BP will provide technical expertise in identifying the locations as well as drilling, officials said. Stratigraphic drilling - also known as a stratigraphic test well - is a type of exploratory drilling aimed at studying underground geological formations rather than producing oil or gas. These wells are drilled to gather data on subsurface layers through continuous coring, petrophysical logging, and seismic data integration. NTPC plans overseas uranium buys to secure fuel for future nuclear projects

Home-grown power giant NTPC, which is diversifying into clean energy generation, looks to acquire uranium assets overseas to ensure fuel availability for its future nuclear projects, according to a company official. Established as a thermal-based power generator in 1975, NTPC Ltd (erstwhile National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd), has been increasing its capacity while diversifying into new modes of energy generation. The country's largest power generator has an installed capacity of 83,026 megawatt at group level based on fuel sources like coal, gas/liquid fuel, hydro, and solar, according to the NTPC website. To increase its non fossil fuel-based energy generation capacity, the company has plans to set up nuclear projects at various locations in India both through joint venture route and individually. Hero MotoCorp expects the ongoing festival season to be "one of the best" in terms of sales, helping it maintain leadership position in the domestic two-wheeler segment this year as well, according to a senior company executive. The country's largest two-wheeler maker, which recently crossed 125 million unit production milestone, expects the GST rate cut on two-wheelers to boost demand and compensate for the loss of sales in the period leading up to the major tax reform. Mcap of 7 top valued firms jumps by 1.18 trn; SBI, Airtel biggest winners

The combined market valuation of seven of the top-10 most valued firms jumped by Rs 1,18,328.29 crore last week, with State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel emerging as the biggest gainers, amid an optimistic trend in equities. Last week, the BSE benchmark surged 721.53 points or 0.88 per cent. While Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, Infosys and Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) were the winners, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and Hindustan Unilever emerged as the laggards. The market valuation of State Bank of India jumped Rs 35,953.25 crore to Rs 7,95,910 crore. Bharti Airtel added Rs 33,214.77 crore taking its valuation to Rs 11,18,952.64 crore.
