Over 350 illegal religious structures removed along Nepal border
    Business Standard
The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday said that more than 350 unauthorised religious sites, including madrasas, mosques, mazars and Eidgahs, have been identified and subjected to sealing or demolition in recent days, an official statement issued here said. Acting on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's clear directive that no religious encroachment will be tolerated, the administration in districts such as Pilibhit, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj has launched a sweeping campaign, it said. The authorities have systematically identified illegal structures and taken strict action, continuing operations even on Sunday. The chief minister has made it clear that encroachment in the name of any religion will not be allowed and all violators, especially those running unrecognised religious institutions, will face legal consequences, the statement said. On May 10 and 11, 104 madrasas, one mosque, five mazars and two Eidgahs built illegally on public and private

India right to act against Pak-based terrorists, industry backs govt: CII
    Business Standard
India has done the right thing to punish Pakistan-based terrorists who killed innocent citizens and the industry stands firmly behind the government, committed to doing what is required to ensure that the country's economic progress sustains, according to CII President Sanjiv Puri. The military conflict between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the killing of 26 people in Pahalgam last month is a moment to "rededicate ourselves and re-energise ourselves towards nation building", including enhancing India's defence manufacturing capabilities and capacities, Puri told PTI in an interview. "What the government is doing is absolutely the right thing to do. The idea is really aligned to what the government has always said 'to punish those responsible for terrorism' and nothing can justify killing of innocent citizens. So those people responsible must be punished," Puri, who is also the MD of ITC, said. Puri was responding to a query on what would the industry like the government to

Pakistan stock exchange continues to feel effects of India-Pak conflict
    Business Standard
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday continued to feel the effects of the ongoing conflict in the region with equity investors said to have suffered 820 billion rupees in losses in the last three days. The market opened, like the last three days, to conflicting sentiments but by close, had recovered more than 700 points. The benchmark KSE-100 index climbed 799.65, or 0.77 per cent, to stand at 1,04,326.46 from the previous close of 1,03,526.81 at 11:06 am. The volatility had increased following the military confrontation between India and Pakistan triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that had cross border linkages. Yousuf M Farooq, director research at Chase Securities said such short-term volatility and corrections are a normal feature of equity markets. "We are advising our clients that only long-term investors participate in the market, maintaining discipline during periods of uncertainty and gradually building their portfolios over time," he said.
