Reliance Defence and Engineering has won a Rs. 916 crore contract from the Ministry of Defence to supply the Indian Coast Guard with 14 fast patrol vessels. These vessels are used for anti-piracy, anti-smuggling and search and rescue operations, as well as support to defense ships. This is the first such design and build contract for such vehicles awarded to a private sector shipyard, after a competitive bidding process.
