The new India First policy for domestic procurement for steel - which gives preference to domestic firms for projects worth over Rs. 50 crore - has shut Chinese companies out from pipeline projects worth Rs 3,000 crore being built by Gail India. The guidelines for domestic preference are being imposed on all tenders that have not opened so far, as well as all future tenders.
