1,200 Ahmedabad civil hospital doctors go on strike over stipend hike

Around 1,200 resident doctors of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Gujarat went on an indefinite strike on Monday seeking a hike in stipend. Services were affected despite authorities making alternate arrangements in view of the strike, with patients and kin complaining of long wait at the Aswara-based facility, which is attached to BJ Medical College and is the largest in the state. As per resident doctors, they will stay away from all duties, including trauma care, emergency and outpatient department (OPD) services as part of the strike until an amicable solution is found. "The state health department had agreed to increasing stipend by 40 per cent every three years. This hike was supposed to come into effect from April 1. It was, however, not implemented till July after which we met state health minister Rushikesh Patel. We had postponed our stir then after getting an assurance about its implementation," said Dr Dhaval Gameti, president of the Junior Doctors' Association of BJ Medical

Maharashtra reports 67 new Covid cases, no casualty; active tally 962

Maharashtra on Monday reported 67 new cases of coronavirus that took the tally of infections to 81,34,507, an official from the state health department said. The toll remained unchanged at 1,48,401, while the count of recoveries rose to 79,85,144 after 116 patients recovered from the disease, the official said. Of the latest cases, Pune circle led with 26 new cases, followed by 25 in Mumbai circle, nine in Nashik, two in Latur, three in Akola and one each in Nagpur and Kolhapur, he said. With this, the state is now left with 962 active cases, the official said. A total of 8,54,47,938 swab samples have been tested in the state so far, of which 6,458 were tested in the last 24 hours, he said. The recovery rate in the state stood at 98.16 per cent, while the fatality rate was 1.82 per cent, the official said. Karnataka govt issues advisory after detection of new Covid sub-variant

The Karnataka government has issued an advisory urging people to adhere to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour in view of newer sub-variants of Coronavirus being reported in neighbouring Maharashtra. The health department has also advised people with symptoms such as cough, cold and fever to get tested at nearest hospitals and isolate themselves till the results are out.
