India sees improvement in maternal, child health, says 2021 SRS report

India has witnessed a significant improvement in key maternal and child health indicators between 2014 and 2021, according to a Health Ministry statement. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined by 37 points from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 93 in 2019-21, the statement mentioned, citing the Sample Registration System (SRS) Report 2021 released by the Registrar General of India (RGI) on Wednesday. Similarly, the downward trend of child mortality indicators continued. The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has dropped from 39 per 1000 live births in 2014 to 27 per 1000 live births in 2021. The Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) has declined from 26 per 1000 live births in 2014 to 19 per 1000 live births in 2021. Under-Five Mortality Rate (U5MR) has also improved, dropping from 45 in 2014 to 31 per 1000 live births in 2021. The Sex Ratio at Birth also improved between 2014 and 2031, getting better from 899 to 913, respectively. Total Fertility Rate is consistent at 2.0 in 2021

Maternal Mortality ratio drops 33 points to 97 in 2018-20, says JP Nadda

India has achieved the National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 target of reducing Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) to 100 per lakh live births by 2020 and is aligned towards achieving the SDG target of MMR of 70 by 2030, Union Health Minister J P Nadda told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Responding to a question, Nadda said that as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) released by the Registrar General of India (RGI), the current Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of the country is 97 per lakh live births. There has been a significant decline of 33 points in MMR from 130 in 2014-16 to 97 in 2018- 20, he said. "India has achieved the National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 target of MMR 100 per lakh live births by 2020 and is aligned towards achieving the SDG target of MMR 70 per lakh live births by 2030," Nadda said. ED starts restitution of flats worth Rs 20 cr to cheated Gurugram buyers

The Enforcement Directorate has initiated the process of restitution of flats worth more than Rs 20 crore to homebuyers of a Gurugram realty project who were allegedly cheated by the builder company, official sources said Wednesday. The case pertains to flats constructed by the SRS Group as part of projects like SRS Pearl, SRS City and SRS Prime. The process to restitute 78 flats of genuine homebuyers in these SRS projects has been initiated following the Appellate Tribunal, instituted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), issuing an order on August 12 allowing the ED to return these flats worth a total Rs 20.15 crore to their rightful claimants. The central agency in January 2020 had provisionally attached assets worth Rs 2,215 crore as part of a money laundering investigation against the SRS Group of companies in a case related to alleged fraud committed against a number of homebuyers and investors. The approval rating of Biden, 81, has plummeted after his dismal debate performance in Atlanta last week against his predecessor Donald Trump. NFRA imposes fine, debars auditors for 3 yrs for professional misconduct

The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) has imposed a fine and a three-year ban on two auditors for professional misconduct and other lapses in connection with the audit of SRS Ltd in 2017-18. In two separate orders, NFRA slapped a fine of Rs 3 lakh each on auditors -- Pankaj Kumar and Naresh Kumar, and debarred them for three years from undertaking any audit in respect of financial statements or internal audit of the functions and activities of any company or body corporate during the ban period. The order came after NFRA received a letter from the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) which had investigated the affairs of SRS Ltd and the group companies. An investigation by SFIO had revealed that the company and its group companies had presented financial statements containing false statements of debtors and indulged in the malpractice of round-tripping and layering of transactions resulting in inflated purchases and sales. ED files charge sheet against SRS group, promoters in money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a charge sheet against the SRS group and its promoters in a money laundering case linked to alleged cheating of homebuyers and investors. Nineteen accused persons and entities, including SRS group chairman Anil Jindal and company directors Jitender Kumar Garg, Praveen Kumar Kapoor and Vinod Jindal, have been named in the prosecution complaint filed under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the agency said in a statement. The complaint has been filed before a special PMLA court in Gurugram and the court took cognisance on October 31, it said. "The accused duped innocent buyers by promising them to deliver flats, plots, commercial spaces etc. however, they failed to deliver the projects. The real estate projects were mortgaged to avail loans from banks and other financial institutions," the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said. Transgender persons to get composite healthcare svcs under AB-PMJAY: Govt

Transgender persons will now get composite healthcare services under the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY with a MoU being signed between the National Health Authority and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday hailed the MoU as one of its kind in the country which will give impetus to ensuring rightful and respectable place for transgenders The MoU will extend all healthcare benefits to transgender persons (holding a transgender certificate issued by the National Portal for transgender persons) across the country, Mandaviya said. The ministry of social justice and empowerment (MOSJE) will fund Rs.5 lakh insurance cover per transgender beneficiary per annum.
