PVR launches 10 screens in Pune

Multiplex chain PVR on Friday launched 10screens in Pune taking its footprint in the city to 35 screens. It launched thescreens across two new properties - the sub-brand PVR ICON and PVR Cinemas. Theselaunches see PVR reach a screen count of 160 screens across 38 properties inMaharashtra. SMAAASH Entertainment expands national footprint; acquires bluO from PVR

India's largest multiplex chain PVR has entered into definitive agreements with Smaaash Entertainment ("SMAAASH") to sell its stake in bluO entertainment, a bowling and entertainment format. As part of its national expansion plans, SMAAASH, a gaming and entertainment company, has acquired 100 per cent stake in bluO entertainment through a cash acquisition deal. bluO is a joint venture between PVR Limited and Major Cineplex Group of Thailand in which PVR owns 51 per cent stake with balance 49 per cent stake held by Major Group. The acquisition marks the doubling of the area under SMAAASH management from 276,000 square feet to approximately around 600,000 square feet in India. PVR, Inox book profits in Q1 despite Bollywood duds

It was a mixed bag of a quarter for cinema exhibition companies as big releases like Tubelight and Half Girlfriend failed to capture the audiences' fancy, films like Baahubali and Hindi Medium managed to drive footfalls. Both PVR and Inox showed doubled digit growth in income from operations, and growth in profit after tax, but it was the growth in advertising revenue and F&B that gave a boost EBIDTA and PAT eventually. On a comparable property basis, both companies saw decline in footfalls - Inox by 2 per cent and PVR by 7 per cent. However, footfalls saw an increase when the new screens added in the quarter were considered. Inox added four screens this quarter and saw footfalls increase by 2 per cent, while PVR added 8 screens and saw footfalls increase by 1 per cent. PVR Cinemas to add 75 screens this year across country, take total past 650

Multiplex chain PVR Cinemas is planning to add around 75 screens to its capacity during this fiscal year, taking the total number of screens it has to around 650.The company is looking at adding facilities in various locations including Pune, Mysore, Jammu and others during the year, adding to the current total of 584 screens across 127 properties in 50 cities. Last year, it added aroud 48 screens, said Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Ltd."This will include both malls and standalone propereties," he added.The company today launched a 5- screen property at Grand Galada Centre Mall, Chennai and will be adding two more properties in Chennai in next 18 months, both in malls.
