Samyukt Kisan Morcha to mark Aug 13 as 'Corporations Quit India' day

The Samyuk Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday said it would observe August 13 as 'Corporations Quit India' day, as it warned of a major "showdown" on November 26, marking five years of the historic farmers' protest at Delhi's borders. SKM leaders in a press conference said the agitation will be over their long-standing demands of a guaranteed MSP based on the Swaminathan commission's recommendation, loan waivers, privatisation, as well as land acquisitions happening across the country, and against the trade deal with the US. All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) leader Vijoo Krishnan said 106 delegates from 37 farmer organisations from 12 states participated in the meeting held on Sunday. ITC Hotels plans to expand portfolio to over 220 operating units by 2030

ITC Hotels Ltd is aiming at expanding its portfolio to over 220 operating units with more than 20,000 keys by 2030, its latest annual report said. According to the annual report for 2024-25, the company plans to accelerate its growth through management contracts and franchise arrangements. Approximately, 70 per cent of the keys are being operated under management contracts, including franchising, it said. Spun into a separate entity after the demerger from ITC Limited, the company owns brands like ITC Hotels, Mementos, WelcomHotel, Storii, Fortune and WelcomHeritage. "Having achieved considerable scale and market standing, the business pivoted into an asset right strategy to drive growth and reduce the capital intensity of operations," the company said. The focus was also on strong partnerships with asset owners, leveraging brand credentials and providing operational expertise, ITC Hotels said in the report. ED raids in UP, Mumbai in conversion racket case linked to Chhangur Baba

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday raided multiple locations in Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai as part of a money laundering investigation into an alleged religious conversion racket linked to 'Chhangur baba', officials said. At least 14 premises, including 12 in Balrampur district and two in Mumbai, are being searched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. The raids were launched around 5 am, along with a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team, which was there to provide security cover to the ED officials. The federal probe agency recently filed a case to probe the activities and financial details of Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, alleged to be a mastermind of an illegal religious conversion racket operating in Uttar Pradesh. Jalaluddin hails from Balrampur district, and his real name is Karimulla Shah. Jalaluddin, his son Mehboob and associates Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Neetu alias Nasreen were arrested by the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) recently,
