NTPC Group power generation grows, adds 3,972 MW capacity in FY25

NTPC Group on Tuesday reported around 4 per cent rise in its power generation to 238.6 billion units (BUs) in the financial year ended March 31. During the FY25, the group added 3,972 MW of capacity, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to around 80 GW. Apart from operational capacity of 80 GW, additional 32 GW capacity, including 15 GW Renewable capacity, is under construction, NTPC Group said in a statement. The company aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. NTPC, under the Ministry of Power, is India's largest integrated power utility, contributing 1/4th of the power requirement of the country. The company has also ventured into various new business areas, including e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear, and green hydrogen solutions.

Ramesh Jha, Whole-time Director of Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd (APJL) has resigned, a BSE filing said. APJL is a material subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd. "Ramesh Jha, Whole-time Director of Adani Power (Jharkhand) Limited has resigned to continue his office as such with effect from the close of business hours on March 31, 2025," Adani Power said in the filing. Consequently, Jha ceases to be a Senior Management Personnel of Adani Power with effect from the close of business hours on March 31, 2025. In his resignation, he said "due to some personal reasons and certain other pre-occupations, I am not able to continue to hold office as a Director/Whole-time Director in APJL." Adani Power is the largest private thermal power producer in India.

Gail's 12 LNG cargoes per year deal with Qatar Energy starts next month

State gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd will start receiving LNG under a five-year 12 cargoes per year deal from Qatar Energy Trading from next month as it augments sourcing to meet rising demand of the world's fastest growing economy. "Purchases under the deal will start from April," GAIL chairman and managing director Sandeep Kumar Gupta said. GAIL had in December last year awarded a liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchase tender for procuring 12 cargoes per year starting in April 2025 for a tenure of five years to Qatar Energy Trading. Besides the Qatar Energy deal, GAIL has in recent months signed long-term LNG procurement deals with suppliers. It has inked a long-term deal with commodity trader Vitol Asia for around 1 million tonne a year for a period of about 10 years, commencing 2026. Under this deal, Vitol will deliver LNG from its global LNG portfolio to GAIL in India on a pan-India basis. GAIL has also signed a long-term deal to purchase around 0.5 million tonne a year of LNG fro
