Opening bell: Markets flat in morning trade, HDFC and Bharat Electronics see block deals

Markets are flat in morning trade, and breadth is horizontal as the rupee hits another record low against the dollar. The Central Bank is not intervening, believing that the rupee has yet to find its bottom, as Federal Reserve moves in the US raised interest rates. Of the 208 stocks traded today, 110 were gainers and 80 were losers. HDFC saw 10.10 lakh shares change hands in a single block, while Bharat Electronics saw 11.7 lakh shares change hands in a block deal.

Largecap and midcap gainers today include PI Industries Ltd. (781.00 1.53%), Infosys Ltd. (741.95 1.22%) and ABB India Ltd. (1291.00 1.10%).

Downers:

Largecap and midcap losers today include Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd. (1809.95 -2.74%), Dalmia Bharat Ltd. (2532.00 -2.21%) and Vakrangee Ltd. (40.20 -1.71%).
