Pakistan to export 100K tonnes of rice to Bangladesh, marking record trade

Pakistan is set to export 1,00,000 tonnes of rice to Bangladesh, highlighting the improved trade relations between the two countries since the ouster of former premier Sheikh Hasina last year in August. The tender for the same was issued by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) last week, a TCP official said. This is the highest consignment of rice to Bangladesh from Pakistan to date. The first Batch of 50,000 tonnes of rice was exported after both countries began government-level trade with rice imports in February this year. A leading rice exporter said that if trade increased with Bangladesh, it would be good for business as rice exports had fallen 28 per cent in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025-26. OGW held with 3 pistols in Jammu; search operation underway in Kathua

An Over Ground Worker (OGW) of terrorists was arrested along with three pistols here, while a fresh search operation was launched following movement of two suspected persons in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. Police intercepted a Srinagar-bound private car at TCP Nagrota near here late Tuesday night, leading to the recovery of three pistols of different makes, including Chinese and Turkey and some ammunition, the officials said. They said the driver of the vehicle, Azan Hamid of Srinagar, was arrested and is being questioned for his terror links. The arms and ammunition were believed to have been smuggled from across the border and was being transported to Kashmir, the officials said. More arrests and recovery are expected in the case, they said. Tata Consumer appoints David Atkinson to head its UK, Ireland business

Tata Consumer Products (TCP), the FMCG arm of Tata Group, on Thursday announced the appointment of David Atkinson as Senior Vice President and Head of its UK and Ireland business. In his new role as Country Head, Atkinson will be responsible for leading the business and teams in the UK and Ireland, TCP said in a statement. He will be based in London and report to the President of International Business, Gharry Eccles, TCP said, adding that the announcement is in line with its commitment to strengthening business in key international markets. In FY19, TCP sold 124m kg, accounting for 11% of Indias total tea consumption. This led to an increase in North India weighted average tea prices by 61% YoY over Apr- Sep20 to INR261/kg (v/s INR162/kg for the same period last year). According to the Tea Board of India, all India weighted average tea prices have increased by 50% YoY to INR224/kg (v/s INR149/kg last year). In 1QFY21, TCPs India tea business witnessed expansion in EBIT margin of 620bp to 21.5% driven by favorable commodity costs and lower discretionary expenditure; the company took a price hike (value growth of 7% in 1QFY21) on the back of an increase in tea prices and carry-forward of low cost inventory, which was sold in 1QFY21 (was acquired by TCP in Aug-December19). As per our channel checks, TCPs India tea business took price hike of 15-20% during May-Sep20.
