Dear Readers, While Indian markets were under some modest pressure last week with Nifty and Sensex down by 0.9%, the more notable trends were in global markets and cryptos. Some AI stocks took a pounding following the release of results from Palantir last Monday. The surprising thing though was the stock correction was more to do with valuation concerns and less to do with its results (its revenue in the September quarter was actually up by a staggering 63% YoY). All of a sudden valuation concerns took centre stage. Why it wasn't a concern earlier is the more pertinent question. But then that's how markets function. Even after the correction last week, the stock trades at an EV/Revenue of 112 times! Yes, over 100 times sales, not profits! With great valuations come great expectations. This had its ripple effect on few other AI-linked stocks as well with those like Softbank falling by 20% during the week. Possibly part of the reason for valuation concerns to mount now could be due to some signals of tightening liquidity in the US economy along with some data points of a weakening economy. The weakness of cryptos, too, may have something to do with tightening liquidity. But for now, this is only a plausible explanation and more clarity will emerge over the next few weeks. Adani may pip Vedanta to emerge highest bidder for Jaiprakash Associates

Adani Enterprises Ltd is likely to emerge as the highest bidder to acquire Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) through insolvency process as its offers to pay acquisition amount in two years have been found better than Vedanta's bid to make payments in five years, sources said. In early September, mining conglomerate Vedanta Group had beaten Adani Group to emerge as the highest bidder, with an offer of Rs 12,505 crore as net present value (NPV), in an auction carried out by lenders to find suitors for JAL, whose interests span real estate, cement, power, hotels, and road. Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, Jindal Power Ltd, and PNC Infratech Ltd did not bid in the auction process. Later, the lenders held negotiations with these five players to enhance the bid value and maximise realisation. On October 14, these five bidders submitted fresh signed resolution plans in sealed envelopes. InCred Holdings files preliminary papers with Sebi for 3,000-4,000 cr IPO

InCred Holdings, an arm of NBFC InCred Financial Services, has filed preliminary papers with markets regulator Sebi through the confidential pre-filing route, and people familiar with the matter pegged the proposed issue size at Rs 3,000-Rs 4,000 crore. In a public announcement on Sunday, the company said it has submitted "the pre-filed draft red herring prospectus with Sebi and the stock exchanges in relation to the proposed initial public offering (IPO) of its equity shares on the main board". The filing comes as the Bhupinder Singh-founded InCred Group looks to tap the capital markets on the back of a strong financial performance in FY25 and a well-diversified lending portfolio, spanning personal loans, student loans, specialised MSME loans, secured business loans, and loans to financial institutions. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegation of 'vote chori' as "baseless", and said he should approach the Election Commission if he has a complaint with evidence.
