16 BSF personnel awarded gallantry medals for 'Operation Sindoor'

Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been awarded gallantry medals for displaying "conspicuous bravery" and "unmatched valour" during Operation Sindoor. The paramilitary force is tasked with guarding the India-Pakistan border along the western flank of the country. "This Independence Day, 16 Brave Seema Praharis (border guards) are being awarded Gallantry Medals for their conspicuous bravery & unmatched valour, for being resolute & steadfast during the Ops Sindoor. "The medals are a testament to the Nation's faith & trust reposed in the India's First Line of Defence: The Border Security Force," the BSF said in a social media post. Among the medal winners are a deputy commandant rank officer, two assistant commandants and an inspector. Delhi Metro to start services at 4am on Independence Day for Red Fort event

The Delhi Metro will begin operations at 4 am on all lines on August 15 to facilitate special guests, invitees, and the public attending the Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort, officials said on Wednesday. Trains will run at a frequency of 30 minutes till 6 am, after which the regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. Those holding bona fide invitation cards issued by the Ministry of Defence for the ceremony will be provided special QR tickets by the DMRC for travel to and from the venue. The Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate stations are the nearest to the Red Fort. The Ministry of Defence will reimburse the DMRC for the cost of such travel, the statement added.

Air Warrior Who Led Daring Escape from PoW Captivity in 1971 War Dies: IAF

Indian Air Force veteran Gp Capt D K Parulkar (retd), who led a daring escape from captivity in Pakistan during the 1971 war, has passed away, the IAF said on Sunday. He died near Pune, Maharashtra, according to a senior official. "Gp Capt DK Parulkar (Retd) VM, VSM 1971 War hero, who led a daring escape from captivity in Pakistan, embodying unmatched courage, ingenuity & pride in the IAF has left for his heavenly abode. All Air Warriors of the IAF express their heartfelt condolences," the IAF posted on X. It also shared an old excerpt from a gallantry award citation on him. Parulkar was commissioned in the IAF in March 1963. In past, he held various appointments, including as a Flying Instructor at the Air Force Academy, according to the excerpt. "During the Indo-Pak conflict of 1965, his aircraft was hit by enemy fire and had injured his right shoulder.
