    JNU to start second PhD admission cycle in Dec, extends hostel duration

    Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the second cycle of PhD admissions, tentatively scheduled for December, for the academic year 2025-26. The university, in a circular, said the process will be conducted through UGC/CSIR-JRF-NET, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, and other such fellowships. In a separate notification, the JNU registrar allowed an extension in the hostel facility for PhD scholars nearing thesis submission. According to the circular, students may apply for hostel extension by submitting "an undertaking duly signed from the concerned Supervisor, Chairperson and Dean of respective schools." The administration said such requests will be considered "on humanitarian grounds and on case-to-case basis."     Punjab govt to impart business, marketing skills to Class 11 & 12 students

    Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday said skill education in business and marketing will be provided to all class 11 and 12 students in government schools from the next academic session under the Punjab Young Entrepreneurs scheme. The move is aimed at encouraging students to set up their own start-ups, he asserted. Addressing a gathering, Bains said under the 'Business Blasters Expo-2025', students are being encouraged to become job creators instead of job seekers, with the state government providing all kinds of assistance -- both financial and technical -- to all progressive-minded students. Referring to the expo, Bains said students selected from government schools across Punjab presented their business ideas before industrialists, start-up founders, and educationists, and all participating teams succeeded in getting financial assistance.     Bihar guv defends appointment of principals in Patna University colleges

    In an unprecedented move, five colleges of Patna University got their principals through draw of lots with Bihar Governor and varsity chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan defending the move on Thursday saying, "we have adopted a system in which a principal's appointment is not guided by personal likes and dislikes". According to a notification by the varsity registrar, the appointments of new principals were made on the recommendation of the Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC). Those appointed as principals on Wednesday in the constituent colleges of the university are Nagendra Prasad Verma (Magadh Mahila College), Anil Kumar (Patna College), Alka (Patna Science College), Suheli Mehta (Vanijya Mahavidyalaya) and Yogendra Kumar Verma (Patna Law College).
