Indian steel companies evaluating possible impact of US reciprocal tariffs

Domestic steel players are evaluating the possible impact of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US administration, saying it is premature to comment on the development. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced reciprocal tariffs on about 60 countries in a historic measure to counter higher duties imposed globally on American products. For India, the US has announced 26 per cent reciprocal tariffs, contending New Delhi imposes high import duties on American goods, as the Trump administration aims to reduce the country's trade deficit and boost manufacturing. However, automobiles and auto parts and steel and aluminium articles, already subject to Section 232 tariffs at 25 per cent, announced in March, are not covered in the latest order. When asked about Tata Steel's reaction, a company official told PTI, "We are evaluating the situation. It would be premature to comment". "The tariff has come just yesterday. Mcap of 9 top valued firms slumps by 2.9 trillion; TCS, RIL hit hard

The combined market valuation of nine of the top-10 most valued firms eroded by Rs 2,94,170.16 crore in the holiday-shortened last week, with Tata Consultancy Services taking the biggest hit amid a bearish trend in domestic equities. Last week, the BSE benchmark gauge Sensex tanked 2,050.23 points or 2.64 per cent, while the NSE Nifty declined 614.8 points or 2.61 per cent. From the top-10 pack, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Reliance Industries, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, State Bank of India and ITC faced erosion from their market valuation. Bharti Airtel emerged as the only gainer. The market valuation of TCS tumbled by Rs 1,10,351.67 crore to Rs 11,93,769.89 crore. The valuation of index bellwether Reliance Industries tanked by Rs 95,132.58 crore to Rs 16,30,244.96 crore and that of Infosys plunged by Rs 49,050.04 crore to Rs 6,03,178.45 crore. Trent's Q4FY25 standalone revenue increases 28.2% to Rs 4,334 crore

Tata Group retail firm Trent Ltd standalone revenue for the March quarter rose 28.2 per cent to Rs 4,334 crore, as per a quarterly update filed by the company on Saturday. For the financial year that ended on March 31, 2025, Trent's standalone revenue rose 39 per cent to Rs 17,624 crore. It was at Rs 12,669 crore a year ago in FY24. Trent's standalone revenue for the year-ago period was at Rs 3,381 crore, according to a regulatory filing from the company, which operates retail stores under the brand names as Westside, Zudio, and Star. This does not include the revenue of Trent from the overseas market, where it operates stores in some countries. "As of 31st March 2025, our store portfolio included 248 Westside, 765 Zudio(including 2 in UAE) and 30 stores across other lifestyle concepts," said Trent.
