B'desh instability not to impact credit quality of Indian firms: CRISIL
    Business Standard
Leading research firm CRISIL Ratings said in its report that the recent political turmoil in neighbouring Bangladesh is unlikely to have any near-term impact on the credit quality of Indian corporates. The report said that there has also been no significant impact on India's trade with Bangladesh going forward, while the effect will vary based on industry specific exposure. It said a prolonged disruption can affect the revenue profiles and working capital cycles of some export-oriented sectors for which Bangladesh is either a demand centre or a production hub. In the financial year 2023-24, total trade with Bangladesh was around USD12,949 million, with Indian exports at USD 11,065 million and imports at USD 1884 million. The report said sectors such as cotton yarn, power, footwear, soft luggage and FMCG could see a negative impact. On the other hand, sectors like shipbreaking, jute, readymade garments would benefit, the report said. India's trade with Bangladesh is relatively low

Bihar a 'hidden gem' not discovered by the world, says Piyush Goyal
    Business Standard
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday termed Bihar a "hidden gem", which has not been discovered by the world. Exuding confidence that the state will do well in the future, Goyal said the image related to law and order issues, loot, and arson held back its progress in the past. The issue of corruption for which the former Chief Minister had gone to jail is history, and transparency is the buzzword now, Goyal said, speaking at an event organised by industry chamber CII ahead of an investor summit in December. He credited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for having "changed the face of Bihar" by completely transforming the reality on the ground and also the image of the state. "Bihar is one of those hidden gems which has not been discovered by the world," the minister said, asking the industry to go to Bihar soon and not miss the bus. He said the Kumar-led administration backed by the BJP has demonstrated the huge potential of Bihar to the industry and exuded confidence that...

India backs Rules of Origin in auto sector under India, UK trade pact
    Business Standard
India is insisting on strict adherence to the Rules of Origin' during free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with the UK in the automobile sector, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal on Tuesday said. He said that the 'Rules of Origin' have to be such that they do not impact the Indian automobile sector negatively. "FTA with the UK is in the pipeline...we are negotiating. We are also very keen to see that not only do we open up the automobile market, but we also see that we do not unduly lose the level playing field vis-a-vis the UK. "And we looked at their Rules of Origin very, very closely. We negotiated with them (the UK), and we told them that Rules of Origin have to be such that they do not impact negatively our automobile sector market," Barthwal said here while addressing leaders of the auto industry. The 'Rules of Origin' provision prescribes minimal processing that should happen in the FTA country, the UK in this case, so that the final manufactured product may be called...
