The markets remained cool as a cucumber and soared higher, despite commentators talking about bulls running out of steam and market breadth turning lacklustre. Indian markets were only following in the footsteps of the US where indices climbed to record highs. Overall sentiment got a boost after the Chinese government launched a massive stimulus, reducing the reserve requirement for banks by 50 basis points and cutting the repo rate by 20 basis points to 1.5%. Mortgage loans won concessions too. All this saw a sudden turnaround in sentiment towards Chinese stocks with the Shanghai Composite gaining 12.8% and the Hang Seng shooting up by 13% in a single week. Whether this is really good news or bad news for FPI allocations into India, remains to be seen.

PM inaugurates Pune Metro section, lays foundation for various projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects of Rs 11,200 crore in Maharashtra via video conference. His visit to Pune scheduled on September 26 was cancelled due to heavy rains in the city. Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated the Pune Metro section from District Court to Swargate, which also marks the completion of the Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase-1). The cost of the underground section between District Court to Swargate is around Rs 1,810 crore, as per officials. Modi also laid the foundation stone for Swargate-Katraj extension of the Pune Metro Phase-1 to be developed at the cost of around Rs 2,955 crore. This southern extension of 5.46 km is completely underground with three stations, namely Market Yard, Padmavati and Katraj, according to officials. Modi also inaugurated Bidkin Industrial Area, a transformative project covering an expansive 7,855 acres under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program, .

SpaceX launches rescue mission for 2 Nasa astronauts stuck in space

SpaceX launched a rescue mission for the two stuck astronauts at the International Space Station on Saturday, sending up a downsized crew to bring them home but not until next year. The capsule rocketed into orbit to fetch the test pilots whose Boeing spacecraft returned to Earth empty earlier this month because of safety concerns. The switch in rides left it to NASA's Nick Hague and Russia's Alexander Gorbunov to retrieve Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. Since NASA rotates space station crews approximately every six months, this newly launched flight with two empty seats reserved for Wilmore and Williams won't return until late February. Officials said there wasn't a way to bring them back earlier on SpaceX without interrupting other scheduled missions. By the time they return, the pair will have logged more than eight months in space. They expected to be gone just a week when they signed up for Boeing's first astronaut flight that launched in June.
