In our Editorial section the decisions made at the 56th GST Council was the most important topic that was analysed. The Editorial welcomed the decision to slash tax rates on a number of items and also the crunching of rates into two broad ones 5 and 18%, arguing that these decisions would benefit the lay consumers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to China for the SCO summit and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they presented a united front to US President Trump, was another issue dissected in our Editorial section. Notwithstanding the signalling of this meeting, the boundary question with China, a major sticking point, needs to be handled with tact by India, as it opens the door for investments and trade. The Q1 GDP numbers was another important topic of comment. The 7.8% growth was a bright spot amidst global headwinds, with consumption and capital formation growing at an encouraging trend.

    Business Standard
Usha Shriram on Friday announced its entry into the FMCG segment with the launch of its premium packaged drinking water brand, Aquaero, and outlined plans to double its topline to Rs 1,000 crore in two years before considering an IPO. "Aquaero marks our third brand and our foray into FMCG," Usha Shriram COO Satnam Singh Sandhu said. He added that the packaged water industry in India is valued around Rs 50,000 crore, of which 60-70 per cent remains unorganised.
