As Biden warns of 'oligarchy,' Trump inauguration to host tech billionaires
    Business Standard
President Joe Biden's pointed warning about the US becoming an oligarchy of tech billionaires will be illustrated at Donald Trump's inauguration, when the world's three richest men will sit on the dais as Trump is sworn in for a second term. Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest person, took an unprecedented, hands-on role in the final stretch of Trump's campaign, spending some USD200 million through a super PAC. Musk has a new role reshaping government in the upcoming administration and will be joined on the dais by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Both men's companies have enormous contracts with the federal government. Rounding out the trio is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who recently changed his company's priorities to align with Trump's and has cozied up to the president-elect less than six months after Trump threatened to imprison him. The three men are worth nearly USD1 trillion combined and will be joined at the inauguration by the chief executive officers of OpenAI and the social medi

    Business Standard
The Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj is proving to be a significant platform for artisans of Uttar Pradesh. Officials estimate a turnover of about Rs 35 crore for the handicraft industry during the 45-day fair. After taking a dip in the Sangam, people are also visiting the 'One District, One Product' (ODOP) exhibition set up across 6,000 square metres area. The exhibition showcases an array of exquisite handicrafts, including carpets of Kushinagar, zari-zardozi work, Firozabad's glass toys and Varanasi's wooden toys, among other things. Joint Commissioner of Industries in Prayagraj Division, Sharad Tandon, said a remarkable growth in business is expected this time over the last Kumbh held in 2019. "In 2019, the turnover was Rs 4.30 crore, but this time we anticipate a turnover of up to Rs 35 crore. This remarkable increase will offer new opportunities for employment and empower small entrepreneurs," Tandon said. Besides, the online marketplace Flipkart has set up a stall in the fair area w

Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin to try again to launch New Glenn rocket Tuesday
    Business Standard
Blue Origin will try again to launch its massive new rocket as early as Tuesday after calling off the debut launch because of ice buildup in critical plumbing. The 320-foot New Glenn rocket was supposed to blast off before dawn on Monday with a prototype satellite. But ice formed in a purge line for a unit powering some of the rocket's hydraulic systems and launch controllers ran out of time to clear it, according to the company. Founded by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Blue Origin said Tuesday's poor weather forecast could cause more delay. Thick clouds and stiff wind were expected at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The test flight already had been delayed by rough seas that posed a risk to the company's plan to land the first-stage booster on a floating platform in the Atlantic. New Glenn is named after the first American to orbit Earth, John Glenn. It is five times taller than Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket that carries paying customers to the edge of space from Texas. Business Standard
Japanese consumer electronics brand JVC is re-entering into the India TV market through a brand licence agreement with Noida-based Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL). Earlier, the Japanese brand had entered India's TV market in 2019 in partnership with Veira Group, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for consumer durables. Before that, JVC was having a technological partnership with Onida Electronics (formerly known as Mirc Electronics), which had launched colour televisions. In its latest innings, JVC has launched its range of premium smart QLED televisions through SPPL, which will be available exclusively on Amazon's e-commerce platform. SPPL, which already has a portfolio of five global brands, operating in the TV and appliances segment, which includes Thomson, Kodak, Blaupunkt, and White-Westinghouse (Trademark of Electrolux), will manufacture a JVC brand set for the Indian market. Earlier this month SPPL, as per its growth ambitions, is said to have tie-ups with Shenzhen .
