    A review committee formed by Bangladesh's interim government on Sunday recommended engaging an investigation agency to examine power agreements signed by deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina's regime with different business groups, including one with India's Adani Group. The National Review Committee on Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has recommended the appointment of a reputed legal and investigation agency to review the major power production agreements signed during the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina from 2009 to 2024, an official statement said. The statement, issued by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's office, said the committee was currently reviewing seven major energy and power projects, including the Adani (Godda) BIFPCL 1234.4 MW coal-fired plant, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited. The six other agreements include one with a Chinese company that built a 1320 MW coal-fired power plant, while the rest are with Bangladeshi business groups said

    Domestic solar installations surge 167% to 16.4 GW in Jan-Sep: Mercom

    India added 16.4 gigawatt (GW) of solar capacity during January-September 2024, posting a 167 per cent year-on-year rise on account of commissioning of delayed projects, Mercom Capital said. The country had installed 6.2 GW of solar capacities in the nine-month period of 2023, the US-based research firm said in its latest report. "In the nine months (9M) of January-September of the calendar year (CY) 2024, solar projects totaling 16.4 GW were added in India, an increase of over 167 per cent compared to 6.2 GW in 9M 2023. The commissioning of several previously delayed projects contributed to capacity additions in the first nine months of 2024," the report titled 'India Solar Market Update' said. As per the report, the solar installations in the July-September period rose by 78 per cent to 3.5 GW from 2 GW in the third quarter of last year. As of September 2024, India's cumulative installed solar capacity stood at 89.1 GW, of which utility-scale projects accounted for more than 86 p

    ReNew Energy's Q2 net profit rises 31% to Rs 440 crore on higher income

    ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew) on Wednesday reported a 31 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 493.9 crore (USD 59 million) in the September 2024 quarter pushed by higher income. It posted a net profit of Rs 377.1 crore (USD 45 million) in the July-September period of preceding 2023-24 fiscal, the Nasdaq-listed entity said in a statement. ReNew's total income in the second quarter also rose to Rs 2,988.7 crore (USD 357 million) from Rs 2,863.2 crore (USD 342 million) during the same period last financial year. Net profit for April-September or H1 FY25 was Rs 533.3 crore (USD 64 million), compared to Rs 675.4 crore (USD 81 million) for H1 FY24. Total income was Rs 5,471.3 crore (USD 653 million) during the period over Rs 5,329.1 crore (USD 636 million) for H1 FY24. As of September 30, 2024, the company's portfolio consisted of 15.6 GW compared to 13.8 GW as of September 30, 2023.
