    Wickremesinghe slams Dissanayake govt for Adani energy project failure

    Sri Lanka's former president Ranil Wickremesinghe has criticised President Anura Kumara Dissanayake-led government for failing to move ahead with a Renewable Energy Project in Mannar with Indian Conglomerate, Adani. Wickremesinghe made these remarks during a televised discussion on Saturday the text of which was released on Monday. He also stressed the need for Sri Lanka to enhance economic cooperation with India to maximise results for the island nation. Wickremesinghe said during his two-year term in 2022, he emphasised a South India-focused economic framework in areas of renewable energy, agriculture, and trade links. "I explored many avenues for economic cooperation with India. Regrettably, the current government has failed to pursue the Adani renewable project in Mannar."     Delhi saves 269 MW by switching off non-essential power during Earth Hour

    Delhi saved 269 MW power joining hands with other cities of the world by switching off non-essential electrical appliances during the Earth Hour on Saturday. The lighting around the India Gate was also switched off to mark the Earth Hour. Last year, the city managed to save 206 MW power during the Earth Hour observed from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM, under the aegis of World Wide Fund (WWF) to create awareness about the need to protect the nature and planet earth. The BSES discoms saved 159 MW of power during the Earth Hour with people switching off electrical appliances, said a company spokesperson. Tata Power-DDL consumers collectively saved 74 MW during the Earth Hour 2025 by switching off non-essential lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, said a spokesperson of the discom.     India targets 1.91 lakh ckm of power lines, 1274 GVA by 2032: Manohar Lal

    Union Power Minister Manohar Lal on Friday said that India has planned to add about 1.91 lakh ckm (circuit kilometre) of transmission lines and 1274 GVA of transformation capacity by 2032. Addressing a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament for Ministry of Power on Thursday evening he stated that power is a critical component in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. He said that the National Electricity Plan provides the details of transmission system required to be added in the country during the period 2023 to 2032, commensurate with the generation capacity addition and growth of electricity demand in the country. He also said that the optimal utilization of generating capacity can be ensured with availability of adequate transmission system, which is the requirement of a reliable power system.
