Indian indices closed lower, dragged down by losses in metal and banking stocks. The Indian volatility index, Nifty VIX, rose 4.8% and closed at 11.1 points. Transformer manufacturers such as Quality Power, BHEL and Voltamp Transformers rose sharply after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency and restricting the use of certain foreign equipment in the US electricity grid.
Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 closed flat. Nifty Cement and Nifty Pharma were among the top index gainers today. According to Trendlyne’s Sector dashboard, Hardware Technology & Equipment emerged as the best-performing sector of the day, with a rise of 2.6%.
Asian indices closed mixed, while European indices are trading with varied trends. US index futures traded mixed. US officials said USS Theodore Roosevelt will deploy to the Middle East in the coming weeks for at least seven months. This comes as the US Navy faces strain from the ongoing war and global commitments. Meanwhile, Nvidia reported record Q2 revenue of $96.2 billion, beating estimates and rising 106% YoY, driven by strong data-centre demand and the continued ramp-up of its AI platforms.

BPCL CMD Sanjay Khanna says the company plans to raise Kochi Refinery’s capacity to 17 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) from 15.5 MMTPA, strengthening refinery-petrochemical integration and expanding its higher-value product portfolio. HDFC Bank is falling as a US class-action lawsuit alleges the lender disguised about Rs 45 crore of payments to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as marketing expenses to secure large deposits.
