Indian indices closed lower due to profit booking after rallying for four straight days. The Indian volatility index, Nifty VIX, rose 2.2% and closed at 12.2 points. Dabur India closed lower after the FSSAI directed the company to stop selling food products carrying misleading “100%” claims, including honey, cow ghee and edible oils.
Nifty Smallcap 100 closed higher, while Nifty Midcap 100 closed lower. Nifty Realty and Nifty Oil & Gas are among the top index losers today. According to Trendlyne’s sector dashboard, Realty emerged as the worst-performing sector of the day, with a fall of 1.6%.
Asian markets closed mixed. European markets traded higher, except for Spain’s IBEX 35. US index futures traded mixed. Investors await the US JOLTS job openings data for June, due later today, for cues on the labour market. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil futures traded higher as uncertainty around US-Iran talks continued and a cargo vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, keeping Middle East shipping risks in focus.
