Delhi govt orders CAG audit of power discoms over pending RAs of 38,500 cr

The Delhi government has ordered a CAG audit of power discoms against the backdrop of a staggering Rs 38,500 crore accumulated over the years as Regulatory Assets (RA) that are to be recovered from consumers. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India will undertake a "strict and intensive" audit of the circumstances under which discoms - BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) - have continued without recovery of regulatory assets, according to an order issued by the Power Department of the Delhi government on Wednesday. The audit may preferably be completed within three months from the date of communication of the order, subject to any extension that the CAG may consider according to the scope and complexity of the audit, the order said. Facilitated around 2300 EV charging points in Delhi, 900 more coming: BSES

BSES discoms BRPL and BYPL have facilitated the installation of around 2300 charging points in Delhi for electric vehicles (EVs) and are in the process to set up 900 more in the coming months, company's officials said on Tuesday. The 2300 charging points installed at over 900 locations across south, east, central and west Delhi include 1,123 private ones, 745 public and 419 for captive BSES use, the officials said. The company is in talks with several partners to expand the charging infrastructure further, they said. "BSES will facilitate the installation of additional 900-plus charging points over the next few months," an official said, adding BSES discoms aim to convert their entire fleet of vehicles to EVs by 2030. Presently, BSES has 80 EVs and the number is expected to reach to 150 in the next two years, they said. Delhi's winter power demand may go up to 5,500 MW this year: Official

The national capital's peak power demand this winter can go up to a record 5,500 MW, officials said on Tuesday. The power demand peaked at 5,104 MW last year and 5,021 MW in 2020. The peak winter power demand in BRPL and BYPL discom areas reached 2,140 MW and 1,122 MW, respectively, during the last winter. This year, Delhi's peak power demand during winter can go up to 5,500 MW. It is expected to reach 2,289 MW and 1,159 MW for BRPL and BYPL respectively, a BSES spokesperson said. He said BSES discoms are geared to ensure adequate power availability for its around 47 lakh consumers (around two crore residents) during the winter months. BSES discoms will also bank surplus power with other states, which need additional power during the winter months. This banked power will be available during the summer months. 1,000 electric vehicle charging points set up across Delhi, says govt

The Delhi government has set up 1,000 charging points in less than a year for electric vehicles under the single window facility, said an official statement on Sunday. The government is planning to set up 18,000 such points in the next three years. In November 2021, it had set in place a single window facility for installation of EV chargers in private and semi-public spaces in Delhi, which includes residential spaces like apartments and group housing societies, institutional buildings like hospitals, and commercial spaces like kirana stores, shops and malls. Through the facility, any resident of Delhi can request installation of a charger from empanelled vendors in their premises, either through the online portal of DISCOM or by making a phone call. Delhi has three electricity providers namely BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL). Delhi may see 445 MW of power supply shortage

KOLKATA: Aravali Power Company has served a power supply regulation notice to Delhi distribution companies, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) & BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) for non-payment of dues. The regulation will deprive Delhi of 445 MW of power midnight of September 5. Power allocated to these DISCOMs from Aravali Power Company is 445 MW and the average monthly energy bill is around Rs 87 crore for the current fiscal. "Payments by the DISCOMs have become irregular for quite sometime. The matter was brought before the Supreme Court of India, who in their judgement dated 26.03.2014 directed the DISCOMs to ensure payments of all current energy bills with effect from January 2014. However, despite clear directions of the Supreme Court, dues continued to accumulate. On Thursday, the outstanding amounts are Rs 961.58 crore," said Aravali Power in a statement on Thursday. "In a meeting held by Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) both BRPL & BYPL had given plan for liquidation of outstanding dues based on which regulation notice issued by Aravali Power earlier was withdrawn. Aravali Power has to pay in advance to its fuel suppliers which constitute about 70 per cent-80 per cent of its monthly energy bills. If the above situation continues, APCPL being a single power station company is unable to meet any of its commitments including payment to fuel suppliers, debt servicing requirements and even payment of salaries to its employees," the company said.
